Wuskowhan Players Club

News from the Golf Shop…

A new golf season is upon us and we are very excited to get this season started.  As many of you know the golf industry has been struggling for the last few years and this season is not going to be any different.  Like the Founders who have continued to make the commitment to excellence on the golf course; we would also like to stress our dedication to provide the best service possible to our membership.  We will be starting a more structured caddie program to further raise the level of our young caddies.  Also, we will continue to push our golf staff to give their best and provide a high level of service for any and all of your needs.  Our belief is we can always get better and we plan on doing just that.

Part of this continued commitment to excellence; we have added another Golf Professional to our staff.  Russ Walk is joining Paul and me as part of your Professional Golf staff.  Russ is a graduate of the Ferris State University PGM program and has gained experience working at clubs such as Thornapple Pointe, Lockmoore Club and Desert Willow Golf Restort.  We are excited to add Russ’s personality and skill set to our team in hopes of benefitting the Wuskowhan experience for you.

With the new season comes new equipment and fashion.  Drivers continue to receive the most technology upgrades and will make for some excitement on our demo day which will be held on Friday, May 22nd.  This new technology is allowing the player to adjust the face angles of the driver to assist in correcting slices or hooks.  As I write this, the new Taylor Made R9 drivers have just been delivered and we are looking forward to getting these innovative clubs in your hands.  Also, club fitting will remain important step when buying a new set of irons and is a service in which your professional staff is trained to assist you in.  New apparel is also on its way to our Pro Shop.  Judging by the surveys which we received, there is a wide disparity in what everyone is looking for in the Pro Shop.  We assure you that we will continue to bring in the highest quality of clothing as well as many different styles and price points to choose from.  We would also like everyone to know that we can and are willing to do special orders for anyone that likes something they see but not the size needed.

We are very excited about one special update that will be new to our membership this season.  Our Wuskowhan website has been a nice tool for browsers who wonder what Wuskowhan Players Club is all about but the site never really gave the membership much information on current events.  This is about to change.  We are overhauling the website to be the main information hub for the membership.  New to this site will be current events around the club, newsletters, Pro Shop sales, menus, daily/weekly features for dinning, news about what happening on the golf course and current Wuskowhan Point List standings.  Eventually, we plan on having a tool in place where you can sign up for all our events on line so you no longer have to mail in invitations or remember to call the Pro Shop to sign up for events.  Our goal is to continue to be more informative and drive participation through all areas of the club.

We have had success with our junior program over the last few years but this year we have decided to try something new. We believe that on course play is an integral part of learning how to play the game of golf as well as how to take care of the golf course.  Tuesday’s of each week will be instructional days in which we will focus on the fundamentals of the golf swing and short game.  Wednesday’s of each week will be on course training of course management, etiquette and rules.

Also new this year will be the Junior Golfer Incentive Program which will encourage junior golfers to be active on the course as well as on the practice facilities.  With the rising age of our junior golfers we have had many questions over the years of when it is ok for them to play on their own.  To help answer this question, we have put in place a test they must first pass on either a Wednesday play day or with their parents.  In order for each Junior Golfer to be allowed to play on their own without adult supervision, they must first score under the target score for nine holes from the Sanctuary Tees as well as play the round in less than 2 hours walking.  If the Junior Golfer passes this playing test, they will receive a unique Wuskowhan bag tag which will signify their achievement and let everyone know they have earned the right to be one the golf course.

Don’t for get your early season tune-ups as Paul and I are excited to get back out on the lesson tee as it’s always good to start the new season off with fresh swing thoughts and drills.  Individual lessons, family packages, series of 3 and Jr. Packages are all available with Paul and myself.

We hope to see you all real soon.
